The only good pack rat is a dead pack rat!!!
I think one killed my 10 pound 6 year old feral cat, Tiger. The critter had been living in the roof insulation of our chicken coop. I set a trap. Caught it and killed it with two 25 caliber shots. They are extremely destructive!!! It was a female with a very nice pelt. It was doing great on our organic chicken food.
The cat had grown up as a kitten at the neighbors. I did not introduce outside cats to our area, but the n as na cat and her kittens liked our place. Tiger was spayed and had her rabies shot. She was in fine condition.
It is possible a bird of prey, bobcat, cougar, coyote, or stray dog got her, my money us on the pack rat.
